St. Athenagoras the Athenian, philosopher and apologist of the faith.
St. Athenagoras was an Athenian philosopher of the second century who, tradition relates, came to faith in Christ while studying the Scriptures in order to refute them. He wrote a Plea for the Christians addressed to the emperor, defending the faith against slander, and a treatise on the resurrection.
He is honored as one of the early apologists of the Church.
