Barlaam of Shenkursk

Venerable Barlaam of Vaga, boyar of Novgorod who became a monk and founder of a monastery on the Vaga river.

Saint Barlaam was a boyar and governor of Novgorod named Basil who founded a monastery on the river Vaga and in old age became a monk there. He reposed in 1462 and was known for his charity and the miracles at his tomb.

On the New Calendar, Barlaam of Shenkursk is commemorated on June 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 2 of the civil calendar.
