Job, Patriarch of Moscow

Saint Job, first Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia.

Saint Job became the first patriarch of Moscow in 1589, when the Russian Church received patriarchal status. He was a man of prayer and learning who laboured for the spread of the faith in Siberia. Deposed by the False Dmitry in 1605 for refusing to recognise him, he retired to the Staritsa monastery and reposed in 1607.

On the New Calendar, Job, Patriarch of Moscow is commemorated on June 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 2 of the civil calendar.
