Basil of Ryazan

St. Basil, Bishop of Ryazan and Murom, wonderworker of the thirteenth century.

St. Basil served as Bishop of Murom and later Ryazan in the thirteenth century. Tradition relates that, slandered by his flock in Murom, he set out on the river on his cloak and was miraculously carried to Ryazan, where he was received with honor.

He reposed in 1295 and is venerated as a wonderworker of the Russian Church.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Basil of Ryazan is commemorated on July 3. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 16 of the civil calendar.
