Mark and Mokianos

Holy Martyrs Mark and Mokianos, beheaded for refusing to worship idols.

Sts. Mark and Mokianos were Christians who refused to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods when commanded by the governor. Tradition relates that they were beheaded for their confession of Christ.

The Synaxarion also recalls that the mother of Mokianos encouraged her son to remain steadfast until the end.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Mark and Mokianos is commemorated on July 3. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 16 of the civil calendar.
