Gerasimos the New of Karpenisi

New Martyr Gerasimos of Karpenisi, who suffered in Constantinople.

St. Gerasimos the New was a young man from Karpenisi in central Greece who worked in Constantinople. Tradition relates that he was pressured to convert to Islam and, having briefly wavered, repented and boldly confessed Christ before the authorities.

He was beheaded for his confession in 1812 and is honored among the New Martyrs of the Ottoman period.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Gerasimos the New of Karpenisi is commemorated on July 3. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 16 of the civil calendar.
