Venerable Bassianos, ascetic of Syria who founded a great monastery in Constantinople.
Bassianos came from Syria to Constantinople in the reign of the emperor Marcian and built a monastery where some three hundred monks gathered under his rule. He was honored by the emperor and the empress Pulcheria.
He worked miracles during his life, and Saint Matrona of Perge was among his disciples; he reposed in peace in the fifth century.

On the New Calendar, Bassianos of Constantinople is commemorated on October 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 23 of the civil calendar.
