Christodoulos of Patmos

Venerable Christodoulos, Wonderworker of Patmos.

St. Christodoulos was a monk of the eleventh century, born in Asia Minor, who lived the ascetic life in various monasteries of the East before receiving from the emperor the island of Patmos, where St. John received the Revelation. There he founded the great Monastery of St. John the Theologian, which crowns the island to this day.

Honored as a wonderworker in his lifetime and after his repose, he made Patmos one of the enduring lamps of Orthodox monasticism. His relics rest at his monastery, and he is commemorated on March 16.
