Chryse the Martyr

Holy Virgin Martyr Chryse of Rome, who suffered with St. Hippolytos.

St. Chryse was a Christian maiden of Rome in the third century who, tradition relates, had been exiled for her faith and lived at Ostia, where she encouraged the confessors imprisoned there. She was tortured and drowned in the sea with a stone about her neck.

She is commemorated on January 30 together with St. Hippolytos and those with him.

On the New Calendar, Chryse the Martyr is commemorated on January 30. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 12 of the civil calendar.
