Clement of Ochrid

Saint Clement of Ochrid, Equal to the Apostles, disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodios and enlightener of the Slavs.

Saint Clement was a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodios and, after their death, laboured in Bulgaria, where he was made bishop and founded a school at Ochrid that trained thousands of clergy and teachers in the Slavonic language.

He reposed in 916 and is honoured with his companions Nahum, Sabbas, Gorazd and Angelar as one of the Seven Apostles of the Slavs.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Clement of Ochrid is commemorated on November 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 5 of the civil calendar.
