Procopius the Reader

Holy Martyr Procopius the Reader of Caesarea in Palestine.

Saint Procopius was a reader and interpreter of the church of Scythopolis who was brought to Caesarea in Palestine at the beginning of Diocletian's persecution. Refusing to sacrifice to the emperors, he confessed Christ before the governor.

He was beheaded, the first of the martyrs of Palestine recorded by Eusebius.

On the New Calendar, Procopius the Reader is commemorated on November 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 5 of the civil calendar.
