Kallistos II of Constantinople

Saint Kallistos II Xanthopoulos, Patriarch of Constantinople and hesychast writer.

Saint Kallistos Xanthopoulos was a monk of Mount Athos and a disciple of the hesychast tradition of Saint Gregory of Sinai. Together with his companion Ignatios he composed the treatise on the spiritual life included in the Philokalia.

He was briefly Patriarch of Constantinople at the end of the fourteenth century and reposed in peace.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Kallistos II of Constantinople is commemorated on November 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 5 of the civil calendar.
