Consecration of the church of the Great Martyr George at Lydda and the deposition of his relics there.
On this day the Church commemorates the consecration of the church of the Holy Great Martyr George in Lydda in Palestine and the placing of his holy relics there. Tradition relates that after his martyrdom in Nicomedia, the body of Saint George was carried to Lydda, his mother's homeland.
The feast is kept on the Greek calendar as a second commemoration of the Great Martyr, whose principal feast falls on April 23.
