Demetrios of Priluki

Venerable Demetrios of Priluki, wonderworker of Vologda.

St. Demetrios was born to a wealthy merchant family of Pereslavl and became a monk in his youth. He was a friend of St. Sergius of Radonezh and, seeking solitude, went north to Vologda, where he founded the Monastery of the Saviour at Priluki.

He was known for his strict fasting and his charity, and reposed in peace in the fourteenth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Demetrios of Priluki is commemorated on February 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 24 of the civil calendar.
