Righteous Empress Theodora, who restored the veneration of the holy icons.
St. Theodora was the wife of the iconoclast Emperor Theophilos. Throughout his reign she secretly venerated the holy icons, and after his death, ruling as regent for her son Michael, she convened the council of 843 that restored the icons to the churches, an event celebrated each year as the Sunday of Orthodoxy.
In later life she was removed from power and lived in a monastery, where she reposed in peace; her relics are venerated in Corfu.

On the New Calendar, Theodora the Empress is commemorated on February 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 24 of the civil calendar.
