Demetrios Tornaras

Holy New Martyr Demetrios Tornaras.

St. Demetrios Tornaras was a New Martyr of the Ottoman period. Tradition relates that he was accused before the Turkish authorities and, when pressed to accept Islam, refused and was beheaded in Constantinople in 1564.

His memory is kept on March 19.

On the New Calendar, Demetrios Tornaras is commemorated on March 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 1 of the civil calendar.
