Drosis and the Five Virgins

Holy Martyr Drosis, daughter of the emperor Trajan, with five virgins.

St. Drosis was, according to tradition, the daughter of the emperor Trajan. Moved by the example of five Christian virgins who were secretly gathering and burying the bodies of the martyrs in Rome, she joined them in their work and came to faith in Christ.

The five virgins were put to death in boiling copper, and Drosis, after baptizing herself in the name of the Trinity, also gave her life for Christ. St. John Chrysostom honored her with a homily. The Church keeps their memory on March 22.

On the New Calendar, Drosis and the Five Virgins is commemorated on March 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 4 of the civil calendar.
