  Basil of Ancyra

  Martyr, Βασίλειος

  St. Basil was a priest of the church of Ancyra in Asia Minor in the fourth century. A faithful shepherd who strengthened his flock against both paganism and heresy, he was seized during the reign of Julian the Apostate, when the emperor sought to restore the worship of idols. Refusing to deny Christ, he endured cruel tortures and completed his course as a martyr around the year 362.

• Kalliniki and Basilissa

  Holy Woman, Καλλινίκη

  Sts. Kalliniki and Basilissa were wealthy Christian women of Rome who used their means to visit and support the imprisoned confessors during the persecutions. Denounced for this, they were arrested and, confessing Christ before the governor, were beheaded.

• Euthymios of the Peloponnese

  Martyr, Ευθύμιος ο Πελοποννήσιος

  St. Euthymios was born in Demetsana in the Peloponnese in the eighteenth century and, while living in Romania, in a moment of weakness accepted Islam. Filled with remorse, he went to Mount Athos, was received back into the Church at the skete of St. John the Forerunner, and prepared himself for martyrdom.

• Drosis and the Five Virgins

  Holy Woman, Δροσίς

  St. Drosis was, according to tradition, the daughter of the emperor Trajan. Moved by the example of five Christian virgins who were secretly gathering and burying the bodies of the martyrs in Rome, she joined them in their work and came to faith in Christ.

  St. Sophia is a monk-martyr whose name the Greek synaxaria record for March 22. Tradition relates that she lived in the monastic life and was put to death for her confession of Christ.
