Euthymios of the Peloponnese

Holy New Martyr Euthymios of the Peloponnese, monk of the Skete of Prodromou on Athos.

St. Euthymios was born in Demetsana in the Peloponnese in the eighteenth century and, while living in Romania, in a moment of weakness accepted Islam. Filled with remorse, he went to Mount Athos, was received back into the Church at the skete of St. John the Forerunner, and prepared himself for martyrdom.

He returned to Constantinople, openly confessed Christ before the Turkish authorities, and was beheaded in 1814. His memory is kept on March 22, together with his companions Ignatios and Akakios on May 1.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Euthymios of the Peloponnese is commemorated on March 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 4 of the civil calendar.
