Edward of England

Saint Edward the Martyr, King of England.

St. Edward became King of England in 975 while still a youth and reigned for only a few years. Tradition relates that he was murdered at Corfe in 978 through the plotting of his stepmother, and that miracles soon followed at his grave, so that he was honored as a martyr throughout England.

His relics rest today in an Orthodox church at Brookwood in England. His memory is kept on March 18.

On the New Calendar, Edward of England is commemorated on March 18. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 31 of the civil calendar.
