  Cyril of Jerusalem

  Hierarch, Κύριλλος

  St. Cyril was Archbishop of Jerusalem in the fourth century, a gentle and learned shepherd of the Holy City. His famous Catechetical Lectures, delivered to those preparing for baptism, remain one of the treasures of the ancient Church, setting forth the faith and the holy mysteries with clarity and warmth.

• Trophimos and Eukarpion

  Martyr, Τρόφιμος και Ευκαρπίων

  Sts. Trophimos and Eukarpion were soldiers of Nicomedia in the persecution of Diocletian, employed in hunting down Christians. Tradition relates that they were converted by a vision on the road, released the prisoners in their charge, and confessed Christ before the governor.

• Ten Thousand Martyrs

  Martyr, Μύριοι Μάρτυρες

  The Greek synaxarion for March 18 commemorates ten thousand martyrs who confessed Christ and were put to the sword during the persecutions of the early Church. The place and time of their martyrdom have not been preserved.

• Ananias the Wonderworker

  Venerable, Ανανίας ο Θαυματουργός

  St. Ananias is a venerable father whom the Greek synaxaria commemorate on March 18 with the note that he was a wonderworker who reposed in peace. Nothing further of his life has been preserved.

• Edward of England

  Martyr, Εδουάρδος της Αγγλίας

  St. Edward became King of England in 975 while still a youth and reigned for only a few years. Tradition relates that he was murdered at Corfe in 978 through the plotting of his stepmother, and that miracles soon followed at his grave, so that he was honored as a martyr throughout England.

• Cyril of Astrakhan

  Venerable, Κύριλλος του Αστραχάν

  St. Cyril was a monk sent to Astrakhan on the lower Volga in the sixteenth century, soon after the city came under Russian rule, to establish a monastery of the Holy Trinity. Tradition relates that he was respected even by the Tatars for his humility and honesty, and that he labored for the spread of the faith in the region.
