Euphrasia of Nicomedia

Holy Virgin Martyr Euphrasia of Nicomedia.

St. Euphrasia was a Christian woman of noble family in Nicomedia during the persecution of Maximian. Refusing to sacrifice to the idols, she was handed over to a soldier to be dishonored; tradition relates that she preserved her chastity by a stratagem that cost her her life, being beheaded.

She is commemorated on January 19.
