Fathers slain at Sinai and Raithu

The holy monks massacred at Mount Sinai and at Raithu by barbarian raiders.

The Holy Fathers of Sinai and Raithu were monks living in the deserts around Mount Sinai and on the Red Sea coast who were slain in raids by nomadic tribes. Tradition relates that thirty-eight were killed at Sinai and thirty-three at Raithu in the fourth century, and that similar slaughters occurred again later.

They are commemorated together on January 14.

On the New Calendar, Fathers slain at Sinai and Raithu is commemorated on January 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 27 of the civil calendar.
