St. Sava, first Archbishop of Serbia and founder of Hilandar.
St. Sava was a Serbian prince who fled to Mount Athos as a youth and became a monk. With his father, St. Symeon the Myrrh-streaming, he founded the Hilandar Monastery there, and in 1219 he became the first Archbishop of the autocephalous Serbian Church.
He organized the Church and monastic life of his people and reposed in 1236 in Trnovo. He is the most beloved saint of Serbia and is commemorated on January 14.

On the New Calendar, Sava of Serbia is commemorated on January 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 27 of the civil calendar.
