Monk-martyr Gabriel of Prokonnesos, who suffered in Constantinople.
St. Gabriel came from Alone on the island of Prokonnesos. He became a monk and served as a preacher in Constantinople. Accused of insulting the Muslim religion, he was imprisoned and tortured.
He remained steadfast in his confession of Christ and was put to death in Constantinople in the seventeenth century.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Gabriel of Prokonnesos is commemorated on February 2. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 15 of the civil calendar.
