George the Confessor of Lake

Venerable George Limniotes, confessor for the holy icons.

Saint George was an aged monk of Mount Olympus in Bithynia who defended the veneration of the holy icons under the iconoclast emperor Leo the Isaurian. He was tortured and had his nose cut off for his confession.

He reposed in peace and is honoured as a confessor.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, George the Confessor of Lake is commemorated on August 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 6 of the civil calendar.
