Germanos of Dobrogea

Venerable Germanos of Dacia Pontica, companion of St. John Cassian.

St. Germanos was born in the fourth century in Dacia Pontica, the present-day Dobrogea in Romania, and was a kinsman and lifelong companion of St. John Cassian. Together they visited the monasteries of Egypt and Palestine and later lived in Constantinople under St. John Chrysostom.

He accompanied Cassian to Rome to plead the cause of the exiled Chrysostom and reposed in peace in the early fifth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Germanos of Dobrogea is commemorated on February 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 13 of the civil calendar.
