Theoktiristos of Pelekete

Hieromartyr Theoktiristos, Abbot of the Pelekete Monastery, who suffered under the iconoclasts.

St. Theoktiristos was abbot of the Monastery of Pelekete in Bithynia during the iconoclast persecution of the Emperor Constantine Copronymus. He and his monks were seized for their veneration of the holy icons.

He was tortured and burned with boiling pitch, receiving the crown of martyrdom in the eighth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theoktiristos of Pelekete is commemorated on February 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 13 of the civil calendar.
