Oswald of Worcester

St. Oswald, Bishop of Worcester and Archbishop of York.

St. Oswald was of Danish descent and became a monk at Fleury in France before returning to England, where he was made Bishop of Worcester and later Archbishop of York in the tenth century. With Sts. Dunstan and Ethelwold he restored monastic life in England.

He was known for his humility and his daily washing of the feet of the poor, and reposed in 992, a pre-schism saint of the undivided Church.

On the New Calendar, Oswald of Worcester is commemorated on February 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 13 of the civil calendar.
