Gerontios of Athos

Venerable Gerontios, founder of the Skete of St. Anne on Mount Athos.

St. Gerontios was an ascetic of Mount Athos who is honored as the founder of the Skete of St. Anne, the oldest and largest of the Athonite sketes. Tradition relates that he lived in the fourteenth century.

He reposed in peace and is honored among the saints of the Holy Mountain.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Gerontios of Athos is commemorated on July 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 8 of the civil calendar.
