  Paraskevi the Great Martyr

  Martyr, Παρασκευή η Μεγαλομάρτυς

  St. Paraskevi was born near Rome in the second century to devout Christian parents, who named her for the day of the Passion of the Lord, Friday, in Greek Paraskevi. After their death she gave her goods to the poor and went about preaching Christ, for which she was arrested; she endured torture with steadfastness and was finally beheaded, her witness, according to tradition, bringing even her persecutors to wonder.

  St. Hermolaos was a priest of Nicomedia who survived the burning of the twenty thousand martyrs and lived in hiding, where he instructed the young Panteleimon in the faith and baptized him. Denounced during the trial of Panteleimon, he confessed Christ together with Hermippos and Hermokrates.

  St. Jacob Netsvetov was born in Alaska to a Russian father and an Aleut mother and was the first native Alaskan ordained to the priesthood. For decades he traveled the Aleutian Islands and the Yukon, translating the Scriptures and baptizing thousands.
