  Panteleimon the Unmercenary

  Martyr, Παντελεήμων

  St. Panteleimon the Great Martyr and Healer was born in Nicomedia in the late third century. Trained as a physician, he was brought to Christ by the priest St. Hermolaos, and thereafter healed the sick freely in the name of the Lord, taking no payment, for which he is counted among the Holy Unmercenaries. Denounced during the persecution of Maximian, he endured many tortures and was beheaded around the year 305.

• Anthousa the Confessor

  Holy Woman, Ανθούσα η Ομολογήτρια

  St. Anthousa was an abbess in the eighth century who defended the veneration of the holy icons during the iconoclast persecution. Tradition relates that she was tortured and exiled by the emperor Constantine Copronymus.

• Christodoulos of Kassandra

  Martyr, Χριστόδουλος ο εκ Κασσάνδρας

  St. Christodoulos was from Kassandra in Chalkidiki and worked as a tailor in Thessaloniki. Tradition relates that, grieved by the apostasy of a Christian, he openly confessed Christ before the Ottoman judge.

• One Hundred Fifty-Three Martyrs of Thrace

  Martyr, Μάρτυρες οι εκ Θράκης

  The 153 Martyrs of Thrace were Christians who confessed Christ during the persecutions. Tradition relates that they were drowned in the sea for their faith.

• Nicholas Kochanov of Novgorod

  Venerable, Νικόλαος του Νόβγκοροντ

  St. Nicholas Kochanov was born to a wealthy family of Novgorod and took up the ascetic life of a fool for Christ, enduring mockery for the Lord's sake. Tradition relates that he and the fool Theodore feigned quarrels across the river to shame the feuding citizens.
