  Prokoros the Apostle

  Apostle, Πρόχορος

  St. Prokoros was one of the Seven Deacons chosen by the Apostles in Jerusalem to serve the needs of the growing Church, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. According to tradition he became a devoted disciple and companion of St. John the Theologian, accompanying him in his labors and, as tradition holds, serving as his scribe.

• Irene Chrysovalantou

  Holy Woman, Ειρήνη Χρυσοβαλάντου

  St. Irene was a noblewoman of Cappadocia in the ninth century who, on her way to Constantinople to be considered as bride of the emperor, chose instead the monastic life at the convent of Chrysovalantou. She became abbess and was renowned for asceticism, discernment and miracles.

• Paul of Xeropotamou

  Venerable, Παύλος ο Ξηροποταμινός

  St. Paul of Xeropotamou was, according to tradition, of imperial lineage and renounced the world to live as an ascetic on Mount Athos in the tenth century. He founded the Monastery of Xeropotamou and later the Monastery of St. Paul, which bears his name.

• Eustathios of Ancyra

  Martyr, Ευστάθιος ο εν Αγκύρα

  St. Eustathios was a soldier who confessed Christ in Ancyra of Galatia during the persecutions. Tradition relates that he was tortured and thrown into the river, but was preserved and later gave up his soul in peace.

• Drosis the Martyr

  Holy Woman, Δροσίς

  St. Drosis is commemorated on this day as a woman martyr who confessed Christ during the persecutions. Tradition relates that she died by the sword.

• Akakios the Martyr

  Martyr, Ακάκιος

  St. Akakios was a Christian who confessed Christ before the governor in Apamea and endured many tortures. Tradition relates that he was finally beheaded.
