Prokoros the Apostle

Holy Apostle Prochoros.

St. Prokoros was one of the Seven Deacons chosen by the Apostles in Jerusalem to serve the needs of the growing Church, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. According to tradition he became a devoted disciple and companion of St. John the Theologian, accompanying him in his labors and, as tradition holds, serving as his scribe.

He is said to have later served as bishop of Nicomedia and to have completed his course as a martyr. He is commemorated on July 28.

On the New Calendar, Prokoros the Apostle is commemorated on July 28. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 10 of the civil calendar.
