Akakios the Martyr

Holy Martyr Akakios, who suffered in Apamea.

St. Akakios was a Christian who confessed Christ before the governor in Apamea and endured many tortures. Tradition relates that he was finally beheaded.

He is honored as a martyr of the early Church.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Akakios the Martyr is commemorated on July 28. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 10 of the civil calendar.
