Paul of Xeropotamou

Venerable Paul, founder of the Monastery of Xeropotamou on Mount Athos.

St. Paul of Xeropotamou was, according to tradition, of imperial lineage and renounced the world to live as an ascetic on Mount Athos in the tenth century. He founded the Monastery of Xeropotamou and later the Monastery of St. Paul, which bears his name.

He reposed in peace and is honored among the founders of Athonite monasticism.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Paul of Xeropotamou is commemorated on July 28. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 10 of the civil calendar.
