Gregory of Agrigentum

Saint Gregory, Bishop of Agrigentum in Sicily.

Saint Gregory was born near Agrigentum in Sicily in the sixth century and travelled widely in the East, studying in Jerusalem, Antioch and Constantinople, before being made bishop of his native city. He was falsely accused by enemies and imprisoned in Rome, but was vindicated and restored.

He wrote a commentary on Ecclesiastes and reposed in peace.

On the New Calendar, Gregory of Agrigentum is commemorated on November 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 6 of the civil calendar.
