Hesychios of Jerusalem

Venerable Hesychios the Presbyter of Jerusalem, spiritual writer.

St. Hesychios was a presbyter of Jerusalem in the fifth century, a disciple according to tradition of St. Gregory the Theologian, and a renowned teacher and interpreter of Scripture. Writings on watchfulness and prayer attributed to Hesychios are included in the Philokalia and have been read by monastics through the centuries.

He reposed in peace, and the Church keeps his memory on March 28.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Hesychios of Jerusalem is commemorated on March 28. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 10 of the civil calendar.
