Hosius of Cordoba

Saint Hosius, Bishop of Cordoba in Spain, confessor.

Saint Hosius was bishop of Cordoba in Spain and adviser to the Emperor Constantine the Great. He presided at the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea and was a firm defender of the Orthodox faith against Arianism, suffering exile in his old age.

He reposed at a great age in the fourth century.

On the New Calendar, Hosius of Cordoba is commemorated on August 27. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 9 of the civil calendar.
