Liberius Pope of Rome

Saint Liberius the Confessor, Pope of Rome.

Saint Liberius was bishop of Rome in the fourth century during the Arian controversy. He defended Saint Athanasios the Great and was exiled by the Emperor Constantius for refusing to condemn him.

He was later restored to his see and reposed in peace.

On the New Calendar, Liberius Pope of Rome is commemorated on August 27. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 9 of the civil calendar.
