  Poimenas the Great

  Venerable, Ποιμένας

  St. Poimen the Great was one of the most renowned of the desert fathers of Egypt, living in the fourth and fifth centuries. With his brothers he took up the monastic life in Sketis, and became a discerning elder to whom monks came from afar for a word of guidance.

  Phanourios

  Martyr, Φανούριος

  St. Phanourios is a Great Martyr whose icon was discovered on the island of Rhodes in the fourteenth century, showing a young soldier surrounded by scenes of his sufferings for Christ. His name means the one who reveals, and nothing of his life is known beyond what the icon itself testifies: that he endured many tortures and gave his life rather than deny his Lord.

  Saint Liberius was bishop of Rome in the fourth century during the Arian controversy. He defended Saint Athanasios the Great and was exiled by the Emperor Constantius for refusing to condemn him.

• Hosius of Cordoba

  Hierarch, Όσιος Κορδούης

  Saint Hosius was bishop of Cordoba in Spain and adviser to the Emperor Constantine the Great. He presided at the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea and was a firm defender of the Orthodox faith against Arianism, suffering exile in his old age.

  Saint, Αρκάδιος ο Βασιλεύς

  Arkadios, son of Theodosius the Great, was emperor of the East at the turn of the fifth century. Although his reign saw the exile of Saint John Chrysostom, the Greek synaxaria remember him among the pious emperors.
