Job of Pochaev

Venerable Job, abbot and wonderworker of Pochaev, defender of Orthodoxy in western Rus.

Job was born in Galicia in the sixteenth century and became a monk in his youth. He was later abbot of the Lavra of Pochaev, where he strengthened the community, printed Orthodox books and defended the faith against the Unia.

He reposed in 1651 and is remembered on his name-day, the feast of the righteous Job.

On the New Calendar, Job of Pochaev is commemorated on May 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 19 of the civil calendar.
