Venerable John of Karpathos, ascetic and spiritual writer.
Saint John came from the island of Karpathos and lived the monastic life, leaving writings of counsel to monks that were later included in the Philokalia.
He reposed in peace and is honoured among the fathers of the spiritual life.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, John the Karpathian is commemorated on August 25. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 7 of the civil calendar.
