John the Long-Suffering of Kiev

Venerable John the Long-Suffering, recluse of the Kiev Caves.

St. John the Long-Suffering was a monk of the Kiev Caves in the twelfth century who struggled for thirty years against the passions. Tradition relates that he buried himself up to the chest in the earth of his cave and remained there in prayer.

He reposed in peace, and his relics rest in the Near Caves.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, John the Long-Suffering of Kiev is commemorated on July 18. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 31 of the civil calendar.
