Pambo of Egypt

Venerable Pambo the Hermit, desert father of Nitria.

St. Pambo was one of the great desert fathers of Nitria in Egypt in the fourth century, a disciple of St. Anthony the Great. Unlettered at first, he learned the Psalms and was known for his silence, his humility and his labor with his hands.

He reposed in peace, and his sayings are preserved among the Desert Fathers.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Pambo of Egypt is commemorated on July 18. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 31 of the civil calendar.
