Kalliope

Holy Martyr Calliopus.

St. Kalliope is honored among the martyrs of the early Church, one of those who suffered for Christ during the Roman persecutions. The synaxaria preserve little of her life beyond her faithful confession unto death.

Her name, which in Greek means beautiful voice, has been borne by generations of faithful women in her honor, and the Church keeps her memory among the victorious martyrs. She is commemorated on April 8.

On the New Calendar, Kalliope is commemorated on April 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 21 of the civil calendar.
