Luke the New Stylite

Venerable Luke the New Stylite of Chalcedon.

Venerable Luke was a soldier who became a monk and priest in the tenth century. He took his stand upon a pillar near Chalcedon, where he lived in prayer and fasting for more than forty years, drawing many to repentance. He reposed in peace in the tenth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Luke the New Stylite is commemorated on December 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 24 of the civil calendar.
