Lupus the Martyr

Holy Martyr Lupus of Thessaloniki.

St. Lupus was, according to tradition, the faithful servant of the Great Martyr Demetrios of Thessaloniki. Present at his master's martyrdom at the beginning of the fourth century, he reverently kept relics of the saint, through which God worked healings among the faithful of the city.

When this became known he was seized, and confessing Christ openly he was put to death, following his master in martyrdom. He is commemorated on August 23.

On the New Calendar, Lupus the Martyr is commemorated on August 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 5 of the civil calendar.
