  Lupus the Martyr

  Martyr, Λούππος

  St. Lupus was, according to tradition, the faithful servant of the Great Martyr Demetrios of Thessaloniki. Present at his master's martyrdom at the beginning of the fourth century, he reverently kept relics of the saint, through which God worked healings among the faithful of the city.

• Irenaeus of Lyons

  Hierarch, Ειρηναίος Λουγδούνου

  Saint Irenaeus was born in Smyrna and heard Saint Polycarp in his youth. He became bishop of Lyons in Gaul, where he wrote his great work Against Heresies in defence of the apostolic faith and worked for peace between the churches.

• Kallinikos Patriarch of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Καλλίνικος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως

  Saint Kallinikos was Patriarch of Constantinople at the end of the seventh century. He refused the demand of the Emperor Justinian II to bless the demolition of a church and was later blinded and exiled to Rome by the same emperor.

• Irenaeus of Sirmium

  Hierarch, Ειρηναίος Σιρμίου

  Saint Irenaeus was bishop of Sirmium in Pannonia. Arrested in the persecution of Diocletian, he refused to sacrifice despite the pleas of his family and was beheaded and cast into the river.

  Saint Nicholas came from Sicily and lived as a hermit on Mount Neotakos in Euboea, where he was known for his ascetic life and prayer.
