Macedonius II of Constantinople

Saint Macedonius II, Patriarch of Constantinople, exiled for defending the Council of Chalcedon.

Macedonius was Patriarch of Constantinople at the end of the fifth century, a man of ascetic life and firm Orthodoxy. When the emperor Anastasius pressed him to reject the Council of Chalcedon he refused.

He was deposed and exiled to Euchaita, where he reposed in the sixth century, honoured as a confessor.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Macedonius II of Constantinople is commemorated on April 25. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 8 of the civil calendar.
